NATIONAL UNPLUG DAY

All day, everyday we are constantly being bombarded with technology. Smartphones, tablets, Wi-Fi access and the internet have enabled us to be connected no matter where we are and what time of day. Have you ever  just wanted to “unplug” from the world for a day or two? Well tonight and tomorrow (sundown-to-sundown) is the time to do it, a chance to put away the digital devices and gadgets and escape from the noise.

Here are some ideas to appreciate those 24-hours, during National Unplugging Day.

PUT YOUR SMARTPHONE AND OTHER CONNECTED DEVICES AWAY FOR 24-HOURS:

Challenge yourself. See how much you're able to focus on being present, and in the moment of things without constant notifications distracting you.

HAVE A BOARD GAME NIGHT:

Time to dust off those games you’ve stuffed away in the closet somewhere.  Board Games are back, so bring family and friends together for night of Scrabble, Monopoly, Backgammon, Clue or any other “Classic” board game you may have stuffed away somewhere.

TAKE A WALK/HIKE:

Walk or hike a place you have never gone before. This could be a new park, neighborhood or trail. Wander where the Wi-Fi is weak.

COOK A THEMED DINNER:

Dig through those cookbooks you have (yes… you do have a few). Work on your chef skills and try something new for dinner. Add a little fun to your mealtime and give the kids the opportunity to come up with the menu.

THROW A FAMILY PIZZA MAKING NIGHT:

Making pizza is a fun way to get everyone into the kitchen. Fresh toppings, homemade dough, and if you’re really ambitious, homemade sauce. Have everyone create their own signature personal pizza.

SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR PET(S):

Take them for a long walk, go explore. Spend some real quality time with them, brushing and petting until they get sick of it.
